Laser Hair Removal FAQ's
What is Laser Hair Reduction and Why is it Effective?
Laser hair reduction is a laser that produces a beam of light that is attracted to the hair follicle, the hair follicle is then targeted, and can not continue the cycle of producing hair.
What Does a Laser Hair Reduction Treatment Feel Like?
Prior to your treatment, you should avoid tanning, plucking, waxing or electrolysis. As the laser is directed over the target area, you may experience a small, rubber band like snap, though most of our patients have not felt anything due to our built-in cooling technology. Your laser technician will use a special wand and customized settings for just your skin and hair type to direct the laser and cooling device to ensure you have the most comfortable experience. There is absolutely no downtime or side effects following a laser treatment, but some patients with very sensitive skin may experience redness and/ or swelling in the treated areas for a few hours. However, our experienced medical technicians will address any concerns you have, and we have a very positive outcome with all of our patients.
How Many Treatments Will it Take?
Since hair growth occurs in cycles, at any given time only certain follicles will be in the growth phase, thereby accessible to the laser. Typically, 6 treatment sessions per area should give the results you are looking to achieve, but its best to have a complimentary consultation with our laser experts to determine the optimal treatment plan for you. The treatments are usually separated in an interval of 3 - 6 weeks, depending upon the area being treated, and the individual hair growth pattern. You will be asked to refrain from any plucking, tweezing, waxing and topical cream hair removal during your treatment time. Again, our highly experienced laser consultants will be able to give you effective pre-treatment and treatment day instructions!
Are There Any Risks That I Should Be Aware Of?
Laser hair removal has been safe and highly effective and has had a long history of success. However, there are some individuals with certain skin conditions who may not be candidates for any skin procedures. Your consultant can go over these and any other health conditions to ensure your safety.
Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Hair Removal?
Most patients are excellent candidates for laser hair reduction, however, patients with very fair hair, very fine hair, or gray/white hair may not be ideal candidates. At your complimentary consultation, our laser experts can determine if your hair would respond in an effective manner with laser hair removal
What if My Hair Grows Back?
Laser hair removal is highly effective, meaning that with correct treatment the hair should not grow back. However, certain hormonal changes or certain medications can stimulate new growth, which was not treated during the initial set of treatments. If this occurs, please contact our office and we will work with you. Under routine circumstances, however, it is highly unlikely that treated follicles would re-grow hair.
